Jillian Gilbert of New City Entertainment and I decided to do an impromptu promotion at the LA Times Festival Of Books last weekend. We gave away 5 copies of my book to the first five people who found us wandering around and said the word “Pantsless.” Ironically, to get into the festival, I had to wear pants.
The first person that found us was Susan Isk, a UCLA student brand new to Los Angeles. Susan should have gotten a book based just on the fact that she told us the best, free place to park around the UCLA campus. No, I’m not telling you people, then I wouldn’t have anywhere to park. I signed the book for her, we chatted about Twitter and the film industry (Susan wants to work in television), and then bumped into filmmaker Liz Grover, who gave the book a glowing review.
Then Jillian and I headed to a different part of the campus where I was stopped for an impromptu interview about who I was and what I was doing there.
All in all it was a good networking event. We passed out bookmarks specially made for the event. If you ask me nicely, I might send you one. I think we’re going to be doing a lot more of these in the future. And there are signings on the horizon. Very, very soon.
